Hello, and welcome! We understand that being new in the SCA can be fairly intimidating because it’s such a large organization. Where do you begin? Whom do you contact? Well, you found a great place to start! We here at the College of Brymstonne try our hardest to help new people get involved in the activities that interest them and to become comfortable at SCA events. Once you find your place here, it can be a lot of fun!
The SCA isn’t altogether historical or fantastical, but creates a unique culture that can take some getting used to! We strive to research and recreate history whenever possible, however our modern outlook and technology has resulted in an interesting blend. Once you visit a few times, you’ll see what we mean!
Brymstonne’s weekly meetings are a good place to attend if you’re not quite daring enough at first to confront the large crowds that attend the local Baronial fighter practices. Brymstonne meetings are held in regular street clothes, so you do not need to dress in garb in order to attend. Please, come as you are!
There are many resources available for new people, including the Hospitaller or Chatelaine of each SCA group (also known as the Gold Key), who is responsible for helping new people get involved. This person also usually has loaner garb that you may borrow for garbed events. Feel free to contact the Brymstonne Seneschal or the Brymstonne Hospitaler with any questions.
If you’d like to do some research on your own, the following links can provide a wealth of information for newcomers. Please feel free to browse, learn, and come to some of our events!
